Diamond Precision Engineering is proud to announce its involvement in the “La Princesse Project”, part of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture 2008 Celebrations.
La Princesse is a 50-foot mechanical spider designed and operated by French performance art company La Machine. It tips the scales at 37 tonnes, has 50 axes of movement, and a top speed of 2 mph. The spider also has seven different special effects: rain, flame, smoke, wind, snow, light and sound. It took a whole year to construct, and was assembled in a secret location in the Cammell Laird Shipyard in Birkenhead.
The giant arachnid was described by many as the “highlight of the Capital of Culture Celebrations”, and was so popular that plans are underway to secure Liverpool as the spider’s permanent home.
